Outdoor lighting installations. Architectural video mapping. The best of both world and domestic art scenes. Workshops. Night cruise on the Vltava River for the light. Modern audiovisual arts. The first and biggest Czech festival of light Signal  now belongs with its magnitude among other European events of this kind as is the festival of light in Barcelona or Lyon. The best of Lighting design, an art form, where is the primary mean of artistic expression and work “material” is the light, was presented in the streets of Prague in October of 2013.

Thanks to the development of modern techniques and technologies, it is possible to encounter light in an almost surreal form. Thanks to the Signal festival of light, it was thus possible to experience the atmosphere of visual mystification in the public space. Signal Festival brought the most important Czech and international artists to Prague. There were four videomapping and 25 light installations on the program.

The festival attracted renowned names of the contemporary Czech art such as František Skála, Krištof Kintera, Rony Plesl, Milan Cais, Vladimir 518 and other who enthusiastically seized the opportunity to realize themselves in the public space of Prague. Prague also welcomed the world’s leading figures and groups of audiovisual art.

Group Anti VJ visual label left a mark in the history thanks to videomapping on the building of the theater Hibernia.

1024 architecture from France created their installations all over the Old Town Square. Russian Sila Sveta prepared original mapping on the Tyrš House. Interactive Cloud by a Canadian pair was hovering above the riverbank by Hergetova cihelna. Czech pair Macula lighted the church of St. Ludmila at the náměstí Míru.

Festival offered a varied accompanying program for laymen as well as experts and professionals in the field of lighting design and technology.

The professional international conference Light for our city 2014 was an important event that was held on the first day of the festival, organized by the festival Signal in cooperation with the company Philips. This professional conference aimed at opening topics about public lighting in the city, architectural lighting design, new technology in lighting architecture and public space. The conference was dedicated primarily to architects, urban planners and lighting designers, secondarily to the general public.

The conference hosted Tapio Rosenius, a top lighting designer from Finland, designer, Marco Bevolo, a town planner and sociologist,  Michal Kaczmarczyk , a  Polish architect,   or Jovana Cvetkovicová, a Serbian lighting designer.

The accompanying program for the public contained several workshops on creative work with light. They were dedicated not only to professionals but also families with children or students of art disciplines. After dark, those interested could enjoy unique audiovisual concerts at the Museum of Karel Zeman, guided cruises on the Vltava river or a workshop of painting with light.
