Jan Beneš

choreographer, dancer and lighting designer.

Was born and grew up in Karlin, Praha, Czech republic. Graduated from the conservatory Duncan centre in Praha and Laban centre in London. He started his career as a dancer and technitian with the international dance company DEJA DONNE directed by Lenka Flory and Simone Sandroni. As choreographer he created several pieces in collaboration with different artists: Unfit for Habitation (Maggie Svallow), Dr.Schreck Klinik – Das Blutig Kabinet (Jan Dörner), Polaris (Vojta Švejda), etc. Since 2005 he is organizing The Voluntary Homeworks – chart show of the movement theatre in Divadlo v Reznicke, Praha.

As a lighting designer he created light designs for these companies and choreographers: NANOHACH(Cz), Mama Callas(Fr/Cz), Scottish Dance Theatre(Uk), Adriatik Presents(Cz), theatre Alfred ve dvore ( Praha, Cz), Sumako Koseki(Fr/Jap), Cristina Maldonado(Mex.), Simone Sandroni (It), Ioana Mona Popovici (Rom), Karen Foss (Nor) Vojta Svejda(Cz), Barbora Latalová(Cz) etc…

Jan is the program guarantee for The Institut of Lighting Design, Praha and also leads workshops on theatre lighting. His musical activites include the bands
